Ashley: Do you want to tell the net people anything?
Bob: Thanks to everybody for coming out last night. I was kinda nervous, but it went really well. It went over so well, I'm supposed to do another one in January.
A: Yeah, Mike's review said you were nervous.
B: There's a review out already?
A: Yeah, and a set list too.
B: (Snickers) Somebody took my set list!
A: Must have been Mike. He said that you did an encore that wasn't on the list...so he might have it.
B: Oh well...And thanks to everybody for supporting us all these years.
A: You used to write a lot of songs in odd time signatures...you don't really do that anymore...what's up?
B: I just haven't felt the need to. If it feels natural...
A: Like Subsistence Dance?
B: Yeah, if it feels natural, then great, but I don't want it to sound forced.
A: Yeah, you don't want to have a sign that says "here's beat seven...NOW".
B: My rule is that if you can dance to it, then great. Not that you have to dance to every song but...I'll do it again if it feels natural...then you have to come up with lyrics that fit...
A: One of my favorite songs that you wrote is "Trust"...will the dots do that?
B: I don't know, but next time I do a solo gig, I'll play it. You know, I almost did it last night.
A: The last dots album didn't have any Raisins songs on it. Are you planning to do any?
B: Not that I know of.
A: I heard you've been playing Quarters.
B: Yeah, if we want to do a song like that, someone will say it, and we'll just do it. There are no rules or anything.
A: Since I only get to see you guys about once a year, I just never hear it.
B: Yeah, we play Quarters about...Quarterly (laughs). About 4 times a year.
A: I saw King Crimson on TV last night.
B: How was it?
A: Great, but the cameraman kept zooming in on a motionless, emotionless Fripp on a stool, while Adrian and Tony were jumping around. It kind of reminded me of a New Years eve where you guys played 'Living in a Lincoln', and Rob was doing the balloon trick, and Chris kept screaming for the cameraman to put hit on the guitar player, and he never did.
B: (Laughs)Yeah, that was great. Adrian is just so busy right now, I don't know if we'll be able to get together anytime soon.
A: Pat Mastelotto told me that they were going to be together for about another year or two.
B: Yeah, those guys cleared their calendars for this thing.
A: If you could play any instrument in a band, would it be bass?
B: Well, when I met Rob a long time ago, I knew that I could never attain the level that he already had, so I figured that my best course was to play bass in a band with Rob. We made that commitment a long time ago. But I don't write songs on the bass, that would be kind of weird.
A: Any bootlegs on the market? (snicker)
B: Well, I have some free studio time lined up, and for a present I just got a bunch of 2" tape.
A: 456 or 499? (Techno-dweeb speak for the type of Ampex tape)
B: 456. It's used.
A: Used?
B: Yeah, but the new stuff costs about $100 a reel. I should be recording some stuff fairly soon.
A: Will you play all of the instruments, or bring in hired guns?
B: Well (laughs), I can't afford to hire anybody! So if there's something I can't play, I'll probably bring somebody in. But it's kinda fun to play all of the stuff yourself.
A: Yeah. Are the Graveblankets a semi-permanent Monday night fixture?
B: As far as I know.
A: For a while, I struggled with whether or not to put the Graveblankets dates on the web, but I decided why not...it won't hurt anything.
B: Yeah, a lot of people that come to those shows don't really care for the dots, and vice-versa. And it's not like we're going to be losing record sales...anything else?
A: Well, thanks for all of your songs.
B: Thanks for the whole net thing. A lot of people have been coming up to me and talking about it, so it's helped the band.
A: Good. That's all I'm trying to do.
